Registered Jobseekers at Jobsplus

1.1 Registered Jobseekers Trend (2015-2025)

Over a span of a decade, registered jobseekers with Jobsplus have decreased by 73%, from 4,615 in 2015 to 1,236 in 2025. If one analyses the level of registered jobseekers in Malta and in Gozo, one notices that in both Islands the level of jobseekers dropped significantly. In fact, the level of jobseekers in Gozo decreased by 88%, from 648 in 2015 to 80 in 2025 while in Malta, the drop decreased by 71%, dropping from 3,967 in 2015 to 1,156 in 2025. The registered jobseekers data included those jobseekers registering under Part 1 and 2 of Jobsplus' unemployment register.

1.2 Registered Jobseekers Segmented by Age Cohorts (2015-2025)

The largest age cohort of registered jobseekers at Jobsplus is that of the 45 years and over (38%), followed by those aged between 30-44 years (34%). Youth unemployment (under 25 years) averaged 14% of youths over the past decade. Over the past decade all age cohorts registered a drop. The largest drop was registered in the under 45 years and over years cohort (-79.8%); then from 30-44 cohort (-71.3%); followed by the 25-29 years cohort (-71.2%); then from 20-24 cohort (-54.3%) and finally by Under 20 years cohort (-27.1%).

1.3 Registered Jobseekers segmented by Occupation (2015-2025)

The majority of jobseekers registering with Jobsplus are looking for jobs as Clerks and support (26%); followed by those looking for Service workers and shop/market sales workers jobs (16%); Technical and Associate Professionals (15%); Professionals (11%); Craft and related workers jobs (9%); Elementary jobs (8%); Plant and Machinery Operations and Assemblers (7%) and Managers (7%). Over the past decade, registration of jobseekers in Skilled Agricultural, Fishery and Forestry jobs are quite low. In fact, those looking for Skilled Agricultural, Fishery and Forestry jobs amounted to 3%.

1.4 Registered Jobseekers segmented by the highest educational level achieved (2015-2025)

34 % of those jobseekers registering at Jobsplus have an ISCED Level 3 classification, namely those with a SEC or O level certification. Moreover, almost 26% of jobseekers have a secondary level of education (ISCED level 2). 19% of jobseekers have a primary level of education (ISCED level 1).

1.5 Registered Jobseekers segmented by Duration of unemployment spell (2015-2025)

Over the past decade, there was a registered shift from those jobseekers (registered with Jobsplus) having an unemployment spell of over 1 year. In fact, the share of those having an unemployment spell over 1 year reduced from 47% to 16% over the past decade, whilst for those having an unemployment spell of 21-52 weeks there was not a significant change over the past decade (from 15% to 19%). Those jobseekers having an unemployment spell of Under 21 weeks had an average share of 50% of total registered jobseekers.

1.6 Registered Jobseekers segmented by Gender and Island (2015-2025)

Over the past decade, the shares between the sexes remained the same having Malta males occupying a share of 63% of total registered jobseekers and females having a share of 27%; whilst those in Gozo occupy a share of 7% and 4% respectively. The percentage share of total unemployment in Malta and Gozo for 2025 is 93.5% and 6.5 % respectively. However, both islands have registered a significant drop-in unemployment.
