The course aims to provide learners, whose first language is not English, with the necessary literacy skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing). This programme will build on a basic foundation in order to increase literacy skills. The learner will be exposed to the basics of the English language in order to interact and communicate using functional English in everyday social and work environments. The course will also help learners to be familiar with certain basic conventions of grammar, spelling and sentence formation; understand and use common expressions and basic sentences; read simple short texts with some independence; participate in common routine, simple and everyday conversations and be able to understand the relevance of said conversation; and apply the knowledge and skills acquired to communicate in English at this level.h
