Mentoring Service Initiative

Individuals of pensionable age who possess a wealth of professional knowledge and experience are invited to take on a valuable role in supporting newly recruited employees, trainees, interns or apprentices within the workplace. Mentors will have the opportunity to pass on practical insights, foster confidence, and guide mentees through the challenges of adapting to a working environment. Through this mentoring relationship, mentors will play a crucial role in helping mentees develop the necessary skills, attitudes, and self-awareness to perform effectively in their roles and maximise their potential when undertaking assigned tasks. Interested persons will be receiving formal training by Jobsplus before becoming mentors.

As populations age, it becomes increasingly important to recognize the value that older adults can continue to offer to society. This mentoring scheme is designed to promote active ageing by enabling individuals of pensionable age to remain engaged in meaningful, purposeful activities - specifically by supporting the professional development of younger workers, trainees, interns or apprentices in the workforce.  Retired individuals possess decades of accumulated experience, knowledge, and soft skills that are difficult to replicate through formal training alone. Allowing these individuals to serve as mentors not only affirms their value but also helps preserve institutional knowledge that might otherwise be lost.  Interested persons will receive tailored training to help them acquire and refine the skills needed to offer effective guidance, support, and evaluation to their assigned mentees. This professional development will ensure that mentors are equipped to foster trust, assess progress meaningfully, and adapt their mentoring style to the mentees’ needs.  Each mentor will be engaged for a maximum of 40 hours per mentee, at a rate of €35 per hour. By creating bridges between generations, the scheme encourages mutual learning, workforce cohesion, and the sustained relevance of retired professionals in dynamic economic environments.

1.    Financial Support: Receive an allowance designed to recognize your time, experience, and contribution. As a mentor, you will be compensated at a rate of €35 per hour for up to 40 hours per mentee.

2.    Guidance and Training: Benefit from a dedicated training programme that will equip you with mentoring techniques, communication strategies, and tools to track mentee progress effectively. Ongoing support will also be provided to help you navigate your role with confidence and clarity.
