FAA'S ENVIRONMENTAL/PLANNING OFFICER

Involved in & direct initiatives that concern the protection of urban & rural heritage, & quality of life, promoting sustainability and the greening of Malta. A combination of research, an active media presence, planning process and educational outreach.

Key Duties include: • Weekly vetting and reviewing of PA applications, to identify the most damaging projects and drawing up objections, involving consulting PA documents and policies. • Representing FAA at PA boards and EPRT. • Advising resident objectors on PA cases/applications that affect heritage, environment or community interest, meeting with residents’ groups and coordinating campaigns. • Drafting FAA position statements and press releases, in consultation with the FAA Committee, in response environmental developments & public consultations. • Initiating and supervising projects to promote environmental and sustainability values, including lecturing in schools. • Maintaining FAA’s media profile through press releases, articles, radio & TV appearances. • Interacting with international bodies and other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), so as to promote Malta’s compliance, NGO networking and capacity-building. Required Skills and Attributes: • Knowledgeable on environment protection issues; committed to protecting Malta’s heritage, natural environment and quality of life. • Good analytical and research skills. • Good organizational and planning skills, capable of working under own initiative. • Good interpersonal skills inc. ability to building relationships with people of diverse generational, educational and social backgrounds. Good team-player. • Comfortable at public speaking and media appearances. • High standard of English and also Maltese. • Sound work ethic and trustworthy. • Able to work under pressure and to multi-task. • Able to work on a flexible work schedule. • Computer-literate with Windows Office Package (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) • A passion for environmental issues in Malta Apart from being an interesting job for a worthy cause, the NGO will offer an attractive remuneration package and a hybrid work location element which will be discussed with the successful candidate.
