The Clinical Teaching Fellow will support the delivery of medical education across anatomy, clinical and communication skills, and other teaching sessions such as PBLs and TBLs.
Main Duties and Responsabilities: Anatomy Teaching • With guidance and support, act as an Anatomy Tutor within the Anatomy Centre, supporting the Anatomy Lead in delivering clinically oriented anatomy teaching. • Teach using cadavers, prosections, anatomical models, and digital anatomy resources to facilitate student understanding of human anatomy. • Supervise and assist students in anatomy practicals and dissection sessions, ensuring they develop a strong foundation in anatomical knowledge. Clinical and Communication Skills Teaching • Provide clinical skills teaching across all levels of the MBBS course, covering topics such as examination skills, procedural skills, communication skills, and simulation-based learning (SIM). • Work with simulated patients and healthy volunteers to help students develop essential patient-centered communication and clinical examination skills. • Support students in preparing for OSCEs and other practical assessments, running revision sessions and mock exams where necessary. Problem-Based and Case-Based Learning • Facilitate Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Case-Based Learning (CBL), and Team-Based Learning (TBL) sessions (full training will be provided). • Guide students through clinical scenarios, encouraging critical thinking, teamwork, and independent learning. • Provide structured feedback to enhance students’ clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Lectures and Curriculum Support • Clinical teaching fellows will be given the opportunity to deliver some lectures in their chosen fields of expertise or interest. • Work closely with academic, technical, and administrative staff to ensure the quality and smooth delivery of the undergraduate medical curriculum. • Support curriculum development, review, and enhancement, ensuring that teaching aligns with current best practices in medical education. Assessment and Feedback • Contribute to assessment question writing, and standard setting for both formative and summative assessments. • Participate in the marking of assessments, including written exams, OSCEs, and practical anatomy assessments. • Provide constructive feedback to students to support their academic and professional development. Student Support and Learning Facilitation • Act as a mentor and advisor to students, offering academic guidance and pastoral support where needed. • Help students develop self-directed learning skills and professional attributes essential for their future careers. Professional Development and Research • Engage in faculty development programs and training to enhance teaching skills and stay current with advancements in medical education. • Participate in educational research, quality improvement projects, or curriculum innovation initiatives. Collaboration and Leadership • Work collaboratively with faculty members, course leads, and student representatives to enhance the medical education experience. • Engage with Student Voice Committees (SVC) and other student feedback mechanisms to address concerns and improve the learning environment. • Contribute to a positive and supportive educational culture, fostering a strong sense of professional identity among students.
